A Dark Sci-Fi Fantasy of Mixed Genres. Empty A Dark Sci-Fi Fantasy of Mixed Genres.

This is meant foremost to be a story that pokes fun of other genres by taking itself a little too seriously for what it going on in the story and vice-versa.

Here is the premise. Aliens have been discovered near the Sun, in its orbit on an artificial settlement. Perhaps a Dyson Sphere, an artificial moon-sized planet, something like that. They are there because they are gathering energy to imbue the lifeless rocks around the Earth with life. Yes, they are the kind of alien races that like to fuck around with the natural order of things, bringing life to lifeless planets and attempting to "ascend" species on those planets that are already teeming with life. They already know of humanity, and bear no ill will towards them, as we are essentially their lab rats anyway.

Upon discovering the aliens, humanity creates a digital message and fires it off towards the alien settlement in hopes of communication. This is done in...I guess the mid-early 1900s? Yes, we're re-writing history as well. Sometime, maybe a few decades from now? Maybe a century? Although the information has not physically reached the alien settlement, they can acquire the information due to their advanced tech. A decade after they receive and decipher it, they send a message back to Earth, a kind of radiation not known to humanity that mutates most of the life on Earth, though some people, for whatever reason are unaffected, or even given some limited form of power(s). You could speculate that the aliens were trying to ascend humanity further, but all of this is still proto-plot.

Most of the humans become zombie-like, though agile. Really, we could do whatever we wanted with the kinds of enemies we encountered. Another side-effect of the radiation is its interaction with the Earth's magnetic field. It causes time on Earth to become convoluted. Things from the far future, distant past and in-between start popping in, and it creates a certain kind of chaos. It doesn't take long for the aliens to realize they utterly and absolutely fucked up, and sometime during the plot they return. Either to eradicate all life on the planet and fix its time-warp or to allow the empowered humans to live and fix the time warp while aiding in destroying the abominations they wrought. Their decision will principally depend on how humans interact with them when they arrive.

There could be talking dragons mutated from animals, basilisks, mechs, just about anything you could think of, really. Due to the time warp architecture could change or outright disappear. Forests could spawn in city streets and stuff like that.

Examples of Items and Stuff in the story

Mana Amplifiers - A class of objects that amplify magic and reduce its costs. They can take any form, though accessory forms (rings, necklaces, etc.) are extremely rare and costly to create. Such amplifiers normally take the form of large contraptions deployed onto the battlefield by humans from the future. Simpler to make than wearable items and bolsters the power of sorcerers in a large area. The drawback is environmental mutation and damage/dangerous radiation that can hurt non-magic users. Wearable items don't put off enough radiation to be dangerous to anyone.

Mana - Not what you're thinking it is. It is a modified life force that changes everything it touches besides its source. The way it interacts with things varies, though it is mostly benign to humans. Initially casting weak magic is recommended for beginners, and even that will tire a sorcerer out quickly. It must be used in moderation, over-stretching your limits can result in black-outs and in the worst circumstance, death. To put in some perspective, the most advanced mages at the time will be able to cast moderately powerful magic like torrents of flame. Conjuration, changing the weather, and calling down meteors from space is a long, long ways away. There will obviously be some exceptions.

The Blight - A largely lifeless area of North America that is constantly spreading, threatening all life on Earth. Multiple fungi mutated and gone wild. It polluted the air and can control the actions of living beings it infects on a low-level. Special gear is require to explore the area. A truly strange area, no one really knows what to expect from it besides a lot of fungal spores and fungus-zombies.

The Aliens - For the most part they will be fully clad in silvery, flexible armor. Body types vary. Their weapons of choice are flame-based, what we would call "magic" but is really just extremely advanced technology. The aliens can use very advanced forms of magic, but seldom do. Their view on sorcery is that it is too taxing to be on practical use, and that technology easily dwarfs it in convenience and strength. Only to be used as a last resort, basically.

Military - Groups of soldiers of various countries still roam about, gunning down infected, sometimes looting and killing people who are still mostly normal. Not all of them are like this, some are helpful and still hold hope for the future.

Talking Animals - As an example birds and such are largely mutated into things resembling the smaller dinosaurs, others becoming dragon-like. The largest and scariest of the mutated animal kingdom are capable of speech and are he most intelligent. Some animals take on the role of guides throughout the modified wilderness, others would much rather slaughter humans in a bid to have their species replace man as the dominant one of the planet.

The Internet - Is still online, though with the world being unstable as it is, who knows for how long? We could have a more inventive idea for it though.

Technology - It should obvious that technology will vary greatly in the world. Medieval weapons will re-emerge in usage, modern weapons will still be helpful and very powerful provided you can find ammo for it, and rare, futuristic technology will begin to appear as they are brought in from a time far ahead.

Settlements - Some people still futilely cling to society and civilization, or simply believe in the strength of numbers. All around the world there will be loose settlements of people still working and paying for the things they want, donating to local law enforcement to protect them. There are a lot of these kinds of places, though they are quickly being overtaken by the dangerous fauna that are now smart enough to attack the sparsely populated cities and townships in organized pseudo-armies. Not to mention the massive zombie population just fucking everything up. At this point it is safer to travel than to stay in one place.

I was thinking my main character and a throwaway character would be looting a city where everyone was busy trying to either flee from or kill the zombies. Everything's going fine....then all of a sudden a dragon. Starts roasting people and zombies alike. From here it could go several ways. Our characters linking up to fight the dragon is probably the most plausible. Obviously you can't fight it at its full strength, so my throwaway character, having been bitten several times by zombies would use his last moment to let loose a grenade into the dragon's mouth as it bisects him with its teeth. The grenade doesn't kill the dragon, but the injury stuns it enough from my character to break one of its wings and keep it grounded. I intend on my character's ability being greatly increased strength and a strong resilience to physical damage.

Can there be zombie dragons? You bet there ass there can and will be.

∞Earth

Just to make sure I don't lose the title cuz I'm too lazy to find out how to map the infinity symbol to my keyboard.

And this day of December 17th, four days before The End, I finally learned how to use alt codes.
