new race idea, the Sandborn. Or whatever. idk about the name yet. Sandborn is a working title

In a vast, vast desert, there exists the ruins of entire city-states who used magic too much, and it caused meltdowns, and their societies collapsed one by one. The Sandborn are inhabitants of the inner desert, where no humans can live, because of the intense sandstorms, and the fact that is has never rained there. But, it is a perfect home for the Sandborn, for they filter out nutrients from the sandy wind through gill-like structures on their faces(where the mouth of a human would be.) and do not require hydration. They are humanoid, but much taller and more muscular than humans. They are characterized by rough, rocky, sand-colored skin covered in various layers of sandy sediment. Although they are not mammals, they share specific mammalian traits such as a complex digestive system, reproductive organs, and social tendencies. They have a tribal society, with many villages around the center of the desert, and they have the behavior of scavengers, travelling to the ruins of the human cities to scavenge for anything of use or value. They possess and immunity to the effects of magical fallout, which allows them to walk freely among the human cities. They are not known to ever travel beyond the desert, so it is unknown what would happen to one if it were to experience fairer temperatures, or even moisture.
