Love Across Hoenn

Nicole: Kara, you're up. Use a Confusion!
She ends out her Gardevoir, who sends out a weak psychic attack on the trapinch.

The trapinch raises its head, and engulfs the Gardevoir in a small, contained sandstorm raging around her

Nicole: Hit it again, Kara.
Kara hits the Trapinch with another Confusion before Nicole throws a second great ball.

The Trapinch bites down on the great ball, trying to crush it, but it ends up capturing it successfully
The sinkhole returns to normal desert sand, with Lia stuck in it head first, her legs dangling in the air

Nicole: *Now knee deep in the sand* Ah! Lia!
She reaches over as best as she could to start digging Lia out of the sand. Kara just stares before sighing and lifts them both out of the sand.

Lia: *coughs out sand* Wah! What's going on! Help me! I'm stuck in the air now! Q.Q

Lia and Nicole are dropped gently onto the ground.
Nicole: Thanks for the help Kara. *Returns her Gardevoir back to his ball* Well, I got a trapinch now. Better be worth it for all the trouble this little prick gave us...

Lia: What are you gonna name the jerk?

Nicole: Chomp, because that's probably the nicest thing I can think of right now....

Lia: Eep! *turns to the side to show Chomp chomping down on her butt* I...think that's an apt name...

Nicole: Wha- How did you get out of your ball?! *Grabs Chomp and pries him off of Lia's ass*

Lia: Ow...*rubs her butt* I hope that doesn't become a recurring joke...well anyway, let's find me a pokemon!

Nicole: Let's hope that it's better behaved than this one. And I hope that Chomp stops biting everything after he evolves... *Returns the trapinch into the ball*

Lia: I hope it's cool! And strong! And can give me rides and stuff!
Later, they stumble upon a frightened Sandshrew, running from a group of Cacnea

Nicole: Aw, look at it. We need to help the sandshrew.

Lia: Right! *sends out Swellow* Okay Ace, I want you to chop up those cactus dudes with your...wings!
Ace looks at Lia weird, then goes and whips up a twister that engulfs the cacnea
Lia: Yeah! That works too!

Nicole: Ooh, nice one, Ace. Is the Sandshrew alright?

Lia: Hey, lil' buddy! *picks up the sandshrew, which curls up in her arms* Aww! I think he'll be alright. I don't see any wounds or anything.

Nicole: I guess he'll be your Ground type, then.

Lia: I'mma name him Sandy! *taps a great ball on his forehead and captures him* Okay, now back to-*looks around and sees torrential sandstorms in every direction* Eh...where do we go?

Nicole: I.... I have no idea where we're supposed to go....

Lia: *looks up at Swellow, perched on her head* ...*gasps* I got it! I'll have Ace scout around from the sky! Ace, go look around for us!
Ace nods, and flies up into the air

Nicole: Hopefully he won't take too long.

Lia: Look, he's going that way! Let's follow him! *starts running in a direction, but trips over a weird, stone-like thing half-buried in the sand* Eh? What the? What was that?

Nicole: Um.... *Starts to uncover it* Oh, it's a pair of fossils on a single rock. That's one for each of us.
