Windshear story thread

setting: half fantasy, half mild-steam punk

I'm thinking in some fantasy world, there's an artifact of godly power; a katana, called Windshear, fabled to be the fasted and most potent sword in the whole world, and the wielder will be imbued with nigh-unlimited strength, speed, and stamina. A group of adventurers sets out to find this sword, unknowing that only one person can wield the sword, and it will have no other wielder. There will be an inevitable battle between all the characters once they get to the sword, to decide who will wield it, but they don't know it yet.

On the way, there are seven trials to get to the temple housing the sword. The temple is located in a craggy, mountainous region, in the eastern continent of Almor, and is surrounded by many ruins that are the site of a popular archaeological dig site. The ruins actually house the seven trials, which once completed, will open the way to the temple. No one actually enters the ruins, because of the rumored curse(which doesn't actually exist, the ruins are just dangerous.) Once one enters the first trial, they cannot leave until all seven trials have been completed. The Trials of Strength, Will, Bravery, Heart, Mind, Stamina, and Speed. Each trial has a sigil at the end, which will be activated once the adventurers have attained the goal of the trial. The trials will be incredibly dangerous, while also testing the personal qualities of each character, according to the trial.

It's recommended that the characters be melee-based, primarily, because the goal is to get a sword, ofc.

"When the mountain reveals itself, when the moon glows red, when the three ravens sing their song, seek the seven sigils to the godly sword to defeat the darkest, unknown evil", a common children's song, but actually it's an ancient prophecy of dire import. The royal council is corrupt, and mischievous. They have already secured the murder of the royal family, and now hey conspire to summon a golem of the shadows, a dark samurai, who is invincible in battle. This way, the regicide can be pinned on the Shadow Realm, which would leave the council free of blame. In place of the monarchy, the council will force their own system of ruling, basically council-based tyranny.

The main character of the story, the son of the master of a small fishing village at the foot of Mount Chimar, a dormant volcano. The hero will happen upon the fact that the prophecy is no mere children's song, and is in fact coming true. On his way to Almor, he will come across a bunch of other adventurers(where you guys come in), who will join him, (each seeking the sword for their own ends, so in the back of their mind, they know they'll have to fight each other for the sword.)

****IMPORTANT: make sure when you guys make your characters, that you add in a reason that he/she wants the sword. Be creative with it (:
the main character will meet all the other characters along the way, and whether or not they believe him about the prophecy shit, they'll go along anyway because most of them want the sword for their own reasons.

Background story: He was the son of the master of a fishing village on a small island off the coast of the mainland continent, Arnes Island. On the island, is the famous mountain Mt. Chimar(that was actually a volcano) erupted, destroying the village, and killing his father(along with many others). Right before he died, his father imparted his knowledge of the council's plans, and the legend of Windshear, and that it must be kept a secret. Arto then gathered some supplies, his father's sword for protection, and escaped before the manse burned down. He then escaped the island with the other refugees, and made it the port town of Atrolis, where the story starts and he meets everyone else.

reason for going after Windshear: to defeat the shadow warrior that's going to be summoned by the Council, and save the realm. (his mission is a secret one, so as to not catch the attention of the Council, and also because if he tells everyone and their mother about it, all the characters will change their reason to saving the realm, therefore using a cop out.)
