In the Impossible Realms (working title) story thread

A group of young warrior friends from a peaceful mountain village must travel beyond the walls and down through the lands below, into a region brimming with wild and arcane magics. They must brave new challenges, dangerous warriors, and deadly battles to find a legendary treasure to save their struggling village. They start to find out, however, that a myriad of other capable warriors are also going after the treasure, as well as a militaristic steampunk army nation bent on taking over the continent. This is a story about different young people learning to cooperate and rely on each other in order to survive.

As for the abilities of your characters; their home town, as well as the lands outside of this mystical place, are generally magic-free, in the traditional sense. The only real forms of magic the people can use are alchemy, scrollreading(an ancient practice, using magical writing on scrolls to create spells to be used any time), and martial element combat(tapping into mankind's bond with the natural elements to be used as inherent abilities)

I'll use an example for the martial element thing to explain my character, Azre. She's a swordswoman who uses air/wind as a martial element. At the novice level, which is where she is now, she can really only use her abilities to do a double jump, and a vertical burst of speed in the air for dodging. But with training, more advanced techniques can be learned, such as creating blades of wind, using wind barriers, and even flight.

So within those boundaries, you can do whatever you want for your characters, just make sure they're at a novice level with their chosen abilities, so they have room to grow.

Also, there are magical monsters and stuff in this world, such as the spiritual dog that razor's character has. Others include stuff like demons, ogres, ghosts, fox spirits, demi-gods, dragons, and elemental spirits exist in this world. Albeit more concentrated in this magical land the characters are going in to.

Now, more about this land. It's called Shinara, and is an actual nation with towns, villages, and leaders. The thing is, there's no central government and the towns look out for themselves, due to the environment's dangerous magical nature. All this mystical calamity is the result of an accident ages ago where a large magical institute which contained hundreds of wizards and thousands of mystical artifacts, scrolls, and tomes exploded, causing a chain reaction fueled by the pent-up magical energy. This conflagration of arcane energies forever cursed the land, and turned it in to what it is now, a dark land of magic, curses, and war.
