Poke-shounen story(The actual!)

No bullshit, let's just jump right in.

It's a dirt road in the middle of a forest, Cole is walking down the road with a backpack full of camping equipment until he's stopped by a gang of shoddy looking highway robbers, five in total.

Robber1: Hey you! You look like you might have something valuable? How about that shirt, first off?
Robber2: Or just drop dead and let us loot you!
Cole: *sighs* I don't have time for this. *walks past them and is stopped by a stalagmite rising out of the ground*
Robber3: Look guy, you look weak, so just hand everything over and we promise we'll bury you properly.
Cole: There's a village at the other end of this forest, right?
Robber1: Yeah, Jadepetal. What about it?
Cole: Got a hotel?
Robber2: I think so.
Cole: Fine. Let's make this quick. *turns to them and cracks his knuckles*
Robber4: Good. *pulls out a club* Now we're getting somewhere. *drags the club along the ground and large chunks of rock fly at Cole* Dodge this, prick!
Cole: *punches the rocks as they come at him* So you're all rock types, huh? Not much I'm seeing here. *sends out a shockwave of electricity, knocking them to their feet* However, you seem to have coinage on you. Probably stolen.
Robber4: What the? I can't move! Is this guy electric?!
Cole: I'm electric, yes. And steel. This is electromagnetism, yes. Now you'll sit here and think about your crimes! *puts weighted shackles on all of them as he says "crimes"* I'll also be taking your stolen money and giving it to the charity here. *makes all of their coin sacks float to him and he turns and leaves the thugs sitting and swearing at him*

(along the way, the path is blocked by a curious scarecrow with a large turnip for a head, casting a curiously dark shadow from the setting sun)

Cole: Rather odd that someone would leave a scarecrow out here on the road. Funny, I've always hated turnips. My mother used to make me eat them. Told me they were good for me. Well, I'll see you around, turnip head. *continues on his way to the village*

(before Cole can travel further, Jax bursts up from out of the shadow, screaming bloody murder at Cole, waving his arms, and wiggling his abnormally large tongue at him)
Jax: BLAAAAH!

Cole: *still keeping a straight face somehow* Oh, so a ghost was in there. Say, you live in the village up ahead by any chance?

Jax: .........YES! But the town fell victim to a dreadful plague...everyone...is DEAD!

Cole: ...You better not be lying to me. I need a place to sleep after all.

Jax: Er....okay fine, the town's population is alive and well. Though very sleepy, as every bed in town has disappeared! HOW FRIGHTENING!

Cole: Fine. I'll just go check out the hotel anyway. *turns and starts walking toward the village*

(Jax jumps into Cole's shadow, and sticks his head out)
Jax: Man you are one stone-faced sunnovagun, ya know that? Anyway I saw what you did to those bandits. Real pieces of work, I tell you. I was on my way to take care of 'em, since they stole from my sister's apothecary shop. And that's no lie!

Cole: Hm. I'll just give all of their money to her when I see her, then. Unless I find something of use to buy from her.

Jax: Look, I'll take you to her! I know she'll give you a handsome reward! What do you say? You an' me, traveling buddies!

Cole: Fine, you can take me to her. And we're not traveling buddies.

Jax: *hopes out of Cole's shadow, and hangs an arm around his neck in a friendly manner* You got it, adventuring chum! You ever been to Jadepetal before? Aw, it's beautiful this time o' year.
(cut to Jadepetal)

The two walk through a rustic looking main gate and into an old fashioned kind of village with mostly wooden buildings with few modernized buildings dotting the village. The village's namesake of jadepetal is its massive sacred tree in the center to be seen towering over the entire village as a whole. Birds flock all around the area and elder folks hobble around the dirt paths making much of the streets and flying types fly over head, zipping out from a post office built inside the massive tree's branches. Cole casually glances over everything as Jax leads him to the apothecary shop.

Cole: It's a nice place here. Quiet and peaceful.

Jax: Yeah, oh the people here love my jokes, too! S'right here. *leads Cole to the apothecary, an old-fashioned building open to the air, and lined with a special kind of blossoming ivy plant, with many flowerbeds hanging and set around the place* Ello, sis?
Ophelia: Is that you, Jax? Did you find the watchmen yet? *sees Cole* Oh, er...who's this?

Cole: *walks up to Ophelia and gives her the stolen coin purses* Here. I got these from those robbers.

Ophelia: Oh my....thank you, sincerely! *takes the purses, and sets them under the store counter* You must have a reward! Anything, it's yours!

Cole: *looks around the place* I uh.. I guess I'll take some medicine if you don't mind.

Ophelia: Oh, wonderful! You shall have my best herbal remedy! *goes in the back, and quickly comes out holding an ornate vial of red fluid* Drink this, and all your wounds will be healed almost immediately! It's...among my most precious wares.

Cole: You really sure about giving me something so valuable? And something so potent sounding as well.

Ophelia: It's mine to give to whomever I want, and it's the least I can do. *smiles kindly at him* Can I ask your name, traveler?

Cole: Oh... Oh right. I'm sorry, my name is Cole. What about you two?

Ophelia: My name is Ophelia, and the jackanape eating snapberries in the corner is my brother, Jax. *notices the declining light level outside* Would...you like a place to stay for the night?

Cole: I was going to go to the old hotel, but I'll take you up on your offer, Ophelia.
