Yeah, exactly.

EDIT:

Though what you said earlier about characters being chosen ones to certain deities and having super weapons is cool. But I'm afraid I'm gonna have to pull a razor here and say it sounds a lot like what Sky explained about artifacts given to characters from the gods they worship. these artifacts being some types of super weapons. It sounds cool, so we can totes do that for here. It's no biggie.

nuuuuaaaaah this sounds awesome.

would the Pylons create natural magic, or be harnessed by those magic factories to create artificial magic, or what?

I suggest for like the setting, we just do it like the cities and junk are all stempunk-y but armor, swords, bows and crossbows are all still widely used. Meanwhile guns and the like are strictly used as artillery and primarily powered by magic. At least as far as cannons go.

Well, I'd think that the ethereal realm's interaction with the mortal plane would be the source of natural magic and that the pylons would create the artificial magic. Still open to suggestions, though.

So, this story will be merged with the RPG Personality Quiz-thing story. I'll be updating the title post for people's roles so far.

I'm wondering if the settings should be more modern or retain a fantasy feel to it as well.

I think maybe retaining a steam punk setting would work, as well.

Oh right, steam punk. We'll do an extreme steam punk setting then. Meow Meaning great feats are achieved with steam punk tech, being the solid technological path of the planet.

Here's a plot idea for LINO: Have an assassin with a reasonable bounty on its head bring our characters together through mutual avarice. It'd be a local mage asassinating people who more or less deserve it. Then the mage would immobilize the cast and work out a more lucrative deal with them if they help him(or her, really) get something. It turns out this mage is someone who has a tendency to lure people through various methods to send them off on dangerous adventures. The mage I think would be True Neutral in terms of alignment. Has a tendency to be a little bit of everything.

I think the quest could be like a springboard for more side-quests to come up, like a town being attacked by undead or something. Get our characters geared up a little and have them start moving towards their respective classes.

Well we aren't gonna be fighting any massive badass creatures. We'll be fighting low-class stuff like wolves, zombies, and maybe a bear or two. And misc. fantasy animals that won't slaughter us.

oh, don't forget about bandits.

anyway, I have an idea for a race in LINO, a very ancient humanoid race predating humans, called Valumar. They have a very old and convoluted culture system, an offshoot of which evolved into human culture. A haughty race, they credit themselves with the creation of the human race, claiming that they "fucked the monkeys." They are characterized by amber-colored skin, black, silky hair, and straight lines of freckles under their eyes. They have strong constitutions, meaning greater resistance to disease and poison, and they have a lifespan of 100-130 years. Their language is very similar to the common tongue, with key subtle differences. The most brash of them only use the common tongue for guttural, vulgar phrases.

Landmark idea: Ga'lin's sword. A rock formation that looks like a sword stuck in the ground.
