The Clockwork Skies Story thread

This is a story thread for my upcoming steam punk story. It is about a brash, young flyboy trying to build himself up from the slums of Carricus, a huge city with the largest skyport in the world. His aim is to build up a crew and get an airship, then sail the skies in search of treasure and adventure. This world has advanced technology achieved by steam and clockwork, augmented by magic.

A note on magic in this world, it's split into two categories; enchantment magic and evocation magic. Enchantment deals with enriching magic crystals with certain kinds of magic with alchemy, and is widely used in civilized society. Evocation magic is extremely rare, and is a product of a bygone age of myth and catastrophe. This current age of industry and innovation came about after the past age was ended with a cataclysm at the end of a magic war, which sundered the world, producing an extremely varied landscape, including floating islands. Not much at all is known of the previous age, but one important thing is that evocation magic users were the main cause. Thus, users of evocation magic, even though the are extremely rare, are regarded with fear and disdain. Evocation cannot be taught, it is an innate skill possessed by the great-great-great(and so on) grandchildren of the evokers of the Bygone age.

This story will start in the city of Carricus, home of the Carricus Skyport, the largest in the world. The city is build around three tall, spire-like mountains in the middle of an expansive steppe. The Skyport is one huge structure built on the peak of each mountain, interconnected by a network of bridges, monorail systems, and various buildings. This summit area is also home to a prestigious academy that trains all the world's Skylords, famed airship pilots.

Name: Gavin Trimarch
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Profession: Captain(aspiring)
Appearance: Windswept dark brown hair, tall and gaunt. Has a bit of stubble.
Wardrobe: A Dark maroon longcoat with black trousers, and black boots. Has a white undershirt with a deep v-cut, exposing his chest. Has a bandoiler going across his chest attaching to a belt holding his sword.
Weapons: Switchflare, a flat-edged saber sword in two halves separated vertically down the blade, and in the middle a red magic crystal, which when activated via switch on the hilt, shoots a gout of flame.
Special Skills: Wind evocation magic. This is kept as a secret to avoid hate and fear, so he only uses it to lightly affect himself, say, jumping long distances, avoiding things easily, and being very light on his feet.
Personality: Eccentric, clever, and extremely manly. Has an unflinching desire to lead, and fight for his friends. Think of him as an ecclectic mix of Han Solo and Kamina. He has a penchant for rushing into dangerous situations without thinking or planning.
Background: Grew up in the slums of Carricus, and has always been desperate for fame and adventure.

Special Skills: Superhuman strength, several gadgets in her arms such as a spanner, wrench, and screwdriver. Her red eyes also light up like flashlights. In combat situations, she pulls her mask over her face.
Personality: Quiet, stoic, and stalwart, as you'd expect from a clockwork person.
Background: Created by a famed engineer magician by the name of Dr. Fox. Nothing is known of his background or appearance, we only know that he was the first person to combine magic crystals with clockwork technology. This is the culmination of his efforts, a near-perfect imitation of human life, granted intelligence with a magic crystal.

Name: Mark Spanner

Profession: mechanical/inventor
Appearance: Tan black frizzy hair. well muscled
Wardrobe: Goggles apron gloves work boots simple shirt and pants with suspenders
Weapons: Giant wrench. good for battle as well as tightening bolts.
Special Skills: good and building and maintaining machines.
Personality: Easy going good natured but a mean drunk.
Background: A friend of Gavin's for a long time.

Profession: Companion/ rescue clockwork
Appearance: Styled after a saint bernard
Wardrobe: A keg of Mark's favorite brew
Weapons: Teeth and his size
Special Skills: Keeps recuse gear inside many compartments throughout his body and like the gynoid uses his eyes like flashlights.
Personality: Loyal like a dog should be.
Background:Built by fox as a clockwork rescue dog he was puchased by Mark and can have a crystal installed.

Age: 22
Gender: Female
Appearance: Short stature(compared to everyone else, even with the heels she wears), thin, with graceful curves and soft, fair skin(with a beauty mark on her left cheekbone with green eyes and blonde hair in a french braid
Wardrobe: A pair of knee length brown, lace up high heeled boots that also have belts over the tops of the feet and at the top of the boot, a  high collared pastel yellow layered dress that's just long enough to cover the knees with long juliet sleeves, plenty of frills with black frills along the hems of the sleeves and black petticoats underneath the skirt, she also wears a loose brown belt with a leather satchel attached for carrying a book and pen, she also wears a black corset over top of the dress as well as a brooch on the collar and finally a pair of rounded glasses. When cooking for her gentlemen, she will also wear a frilly white apron.
Weapon: None. She's a pacifist and doesn't believe women should fight anyway
Special skills: She's well versed in herbalism, mycology and foraging for food/ingredients for food. She can also cook a mean game pie
Personality: As mentioned, she's a pacifist, having been raised in a home that taught pacifist values. She's always been a lover of cooking and baking and has always wanted to travel the world, looking for exotic game, spices, fruits, and herbs to use to invent new recipes and write a cook book that catalogues these recipes.

Here is where I'll be xposting Tremmain's Bestiary, a huge tome documenting all the races and species of the planet in this story.

Fishfolk: The Central Seas are home to a peculiar race of intelligent and aquatic people. They have the magic calamity ages ago to thank for their very existence. They can breathe underwater, talk to fish, and swim quite fast! They can breathe air though, but they still require almost constant moisture, so you'll only find them on or around water. Good luck trying to court any fair fishmaidens though, they procreate like any other fish! That is to say, they lay eggs!

Naga: Colossal sea serpents found in only the deepest of waters. Hostile and carnivorous. Airships are even advised to keep a height of at least 100 meters above the sea, because Naga have been known to jump exceedingly high in order to get their dinner!
